Top three of the most famous British fashion designers

British fashion is synonymous with timeless quality and elegance. A key feature of British fashion clothing is classic and refined simplicity. Here you will not find French pomposity or Spanish motley.

Clothing from British fashion brands is a true embodiment of charming modesty. Interestingly, the British weren’t always fashion trendsetters in the past. They adapted French, Italian, and Spanish fashion trends, sometimes transforming them in their own way.

The icon of pure “English style”, which ceased to focus on the trends of the rest of Europe, was Queen Victoria. Then aristocrats began to gradually abandon luxurious jewellery and pompous outfits, and simplicity and modesty came to the fore.

Even at her wedding the Queen wore an incredibly elegant white dress without excessive details. It has. greatly surprised and inspired the court ladies. Clothes became practical and comfortable, the first place comes not the dress as a whole, but individual details – tie, scarf, gloves, shawl, and so on.

This British style is one of the most popular of today’s fashion trends. Therefore, clothes and shoes produced in the UK are elegant and of excellent quality. Here we have rounded up three of the most iconic and popular British fashion brands.

Burberry

The fashion world wouldn’t be the same without Burberry trench coats. Even people who aren’t fond of fashion and prefer other hobbies (reading, online casino games for real money, etc.) know the iconic Burberry tartan pattern.

In 1856 future gentlemen’s outfitter Thomas Burberry founded a small company Burberry Group. And 20 years later he discovered gabardine.

Gabardine fabric turned out to be a perfect material for breathable and, at the same time, waterproof clothes. The iconic tartan pattern of red, white, and black originally was a lining on the company’s trench coats.

In 1920 Burberry produced a women’s travel bag and decorated it with the same tartan pattern. 30 years later the company turned into a renowned English brand. Burberry even became the official supplier of Queen Elizabeth II’s clothes.

Under Christopher Bailey as designer (2001-2013), Burberry emerged a new luxury line of clothes Burberry Prorsum. Prorsum repositioned the brand’s name in the hyperluxury sector. And Burberry London line was a modern classic: elegant, laconic and stylish models that suit almost everyone.

Alexander McQueen

By now this is the most famous British fashion brand.

This fashion brand specialises in the release of clothes, shoes, and accessories for the luxury segment of the market. The first collection of a young and unknown designer was presented to the world as a diploma work.

Famous English fashion editor Isabella “Issie” Blow became interested in it, and it changed the life of a young designer. Only a year later, he founded his brand. Then he began a series of impressive fashion shows and earned the name of “the hooligan of British fashion”.

By the way, Alexander McQueen created in 2011 the iconic wedding dress for the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton.

Paul Smith

This famous British fashion brand was founded by Paul Smith in 1976. Paul Smith became famous for sewing elegant and timeless men’s suits. They have been always considered a true embodiment of fashionable classics and elegance.

Today the brand produces men’s, children’s, women’s clothing, as well as shoes, watches, perfumes, and lingerie.

Paul Smith’s empire is constantly expanding and growing. Today this brand is represented in more than 30 countries, and it is hard to imagine fashion weeks without Paul Smith collections.
