Purdue University’s Center for Food Demand Analysis and Sustainability is out with a new survey saying that while “consumers generally remain more optimistic about food prices compared to a year ago,” respondents who “self-identified as having liberal political beliefs predict lower food inflation than those who identify as being conservative.”
In addition, the survey indicated that consumers across the board accept the fact that food inflation is cooling, though generally speaking, consumers overstated the increases in food prices that have occurred during the past 12 months.
And, the survey indicated that out-of-stocks in US grocery stores decreased by three percentage points between July and August.
The Purdue survey also suggested that “consumers most satisfied with their diets (thriving) make up 67% of consumers, the lowest recorded by this survey.”
