The Washington Post has an interesting piece that poses two questions to the independent contractors who work as shoppers for Instacart:
What do they wish Instacart customers or potential ones knew about their jobs?
And how can customers get good service and be considerate?
Not surprisingly, tipping is a big deal, though it is problematic. The app requires customers to tip before the order is delivered, which is before you know what kind of service you’ve gotten. (Cash tips upon delivery can help solve this problem.)
It also is remarkable how inconsistent the answers seem to be.
