Lowe’s to Expand Petco Store-in-Stores to 300 Locations, Focused on Rural Locales

Petco and Lowe's are expanding their store-in-store partnership to 300 locations.

Lowe’s and Petco are expanding their store-in-store pilot program, which launched in February 2022, from 15 locations to nearly 300 by year-end. The expansion will focus on rural communities and is part of Lowe’s broader rural strategy of tailoring its assortment in up to 300 stores to include everything needed for farm and home.

Petco store-in-stores at Lowe’s feature a range of products, from nutrition and supplies to flea and tick solutions, and include both Petco private brands and national brands. Petco’s Vetco Clinics, which offer vaccinations, microchipping and preventative medicine, also will be available once a month at 75 Lowe’s stores that will be staffed by a licensed veterinarian.

Beyond pet products from Petco, Lowe’s expanded rural store assortment will include feed and outdoor products such as troughs, an expanded trailer selection, farm implements, livestock fencing, utility vehicles and specialized hardware, as well as Carhartt apparel in select stores and an expansion of the Wrangler apparel assortment.

“Our initial pilot program with Petco resonated with our existing, loyal shoppers and introduced new customers to Lowe’s,” said Bill Boltz, EVP of Merchandising at Lowe’s in a statement. “Partnering with top brands that our customers know and trust, like Petco, allows Lowe’s to continue elevating and localizing our curated assortment to ensure we have the right products in the right markets. By expanding our store-in-store footprint, we’re offering more tailored products and services to meet the unique needs of our customers in rural and remote areas, streamlining the shopping experience.”
