Retail data science company 84.51° yesterday released a new infographic entitled “What Customers Want,” which you can view below:

To me, the two most interesting data points are number one in the ‘current experience” column, and one if the “future experience” column.

The first says that 63 percent of respondents use self-checkout – again, an interesting number considering the negative publicity that has accrued to the technology in recent months.

The second says that more than one-third of shoppers want smart carts that calculate the cost of groceries in real time and allows shoppers to skip checkout – which speaks to the next technology iteration, which will supplant self-checkout.
