•  I’ve said here many times that I am tired of comic book movies, and getting to the point where I may start avoiding movies that depend entirely or predominantly on computer generated images (CGI).

For reasons too complicated to explain, last weekend I found myself in a movie theater watching “Spider-Man:  Across The Spider-Verse,” which is a sequel to 2018’s hit “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.”  It is terrific, and I exclude it from my CGI aversion because it is all animated.  In other words, it is a comic book movie that actually is a comic book movie, and yet actually can appeal to both kids and adults willing to buy into the whole schmegegge.

The plot is way too complicated to explain here, except to say that there are dozens of Spider-People, it takes place in numerous parallel universes, and actually has some degree of emotional resonance.  I’d suggest seeing the fist one before seeing the second one, but if you find yourself in a movie theater, especially with someone younger than you, it is possible to do a lot worse.

•  Two red wines to recommend to you this week – the 2021 Marmicas Duero Tempranillo, from Spain, which is smooth structured enough to stand up to a fresh pasta sauce, and the 2019 Milbrandt Cabernet Sauvignon, which is big and bold and perfect with a steak (or, in my case, a thick, juicy bacon cheeseburger).

That’s it for this week.  Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you Monday.

Sláinte!!
