FaceTime with the Content Guy:  “Unlocked From Landlines”

Content Guy’s Note:  Yes, I know I’m supposed to be on vacation.  But while I’m off, I figured I’d file a daily series of FaceTime videos about a variety of off-the-beaten-path subjects that offer business lessons to retailers.  I don’t want you to forget me, and I don’t want you to think I’ve forgotten you.

Wow.  A reported 73% of American adults lived in a household without a landline at the end of last year — a figure that has tripled since 2010.  Not surprisingly, the 65-and-older cohort is the only demographic for which households with landlines still outnumber wireless-only households.  This got me thinking:  My household is an example of how old world constructs sometimes inhibit new world thinking, which in turn prompts a question:  How many things in business are being done a certain way because they’ve always been done that way?

One other thing this morning. Wende Bennette, an old friend from the Willamette Valley, sent me this picture over the weekend, taken five years ago (before the pandemic upended everything).  Mrs. Content Guy and I were visiting Willamette Valley Vineyards while I was out there for my annual Portland State University adjunctivity.  This picture makes me smile, but also shed a tear or two.
