Hy-Vee partners with Takeoff for e-commerce

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee is working with Takeoff Technologies to add micro fulfillment centers in select stores, according to the Boston-based eGrocery technology company.

The tech company said the mico fulfillment centers will help Hy-Vee meet its customers’ growing demand for online shopping, and added that the technology will complement Hy-Vee’s Aisles Online grocery ordering system by making the process more efficient for those employees shopping orders.

Takeoff research suggests that retailers can use micro-fulfillment capabilities to fulfill an average order of 25 items with just 5 minutes of labor. The technology also increases the productivity of a retailer’s online fulfillment process by up to 10 times — due to its its speed, accuracy and reliability when — combined with a company’s current workforce.

“A network of Micro Fulfillment Centers powered by Takeoff’s technology will help create new competitive advantages for Hy-Vee and enhanced online services for Hy-Vee customers,” Takeoff founder and CEO Jose Aguerrevere said.

Hy-Vee customers will not see any changes to the way their orders are handled, but Takeoff executives say the partnership will help the retailer offer more time slots and availability to users of the the service.

“We anticipate a very successful partnership between our two organizations, founded on Takeoff’s deep eGrocery expertise combined with Hy-Vee’s industry-leading grocery capabilities,” Takeoff president Mitch Freeman said.

Takeoff chief business officer Curt Avallone also cited Hy-Vee’s strengths as key to the partnership.

“Hy-Vee is one of the most innovative grocery retailers worldwide, which is why we are so excited to work hand-in-hand with them to introduce this technology,” Avallone said.
