Albertsons said yesterday that its more than 1,700 stores across the country, operating under various banners, now are “equipped to begin administering the latest monovalent mRNA COVID vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, the annual flu vaccine, and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine, which is now approved for adults ages 60 and up.”
The company said that “for every vaccination received at an Albertsons Cos.’ pharmacy, recipients will receive a coupon eligible for 10 percent off their next grocery purchase up to $200, and access to a free digital vaccine record.”
Albertsons also pointed out that “according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this is the first fall and winter virus season where vaccines are available for the three viruses responsible for most hospitalizations. Health officials encourage vaccinations for flu, COVID 19 and RSV to prevent a multi-virus surge like the “tripledemic” of 2022. This year individuals have more options for protection with the newly available RSV vaccine, newly updated COVID 19 vaccine that target a new variant and flu immunizations that can help prevent dangerous respiratory tract infections.”
“Our pharmacy teams have been long-standing community health partners administering vital medications and vaccines to millions of patients across the country each year,” said Anthony DalPonte, Group Vice President of Pharmacy at Albertsons, in a prepared statement. “Vaccines are essential in helping prevent the transmission of viruses in order to protect our family members, friends and neighbors from severe illness, particularly those who are most vulnerable to respiratory disease.”

What’s the over/under on how long it takes for some malcontent to file a lawsuit against Albertsons, saying that they are being discriminated against because they don’t want to get vaccinated?
(Actually, I’m a little afraid that I just gave somebody an idea.)
Good for Albertsons. As befits a company that operates pharmacies, it is expressing confidence in the science of vaccines and the scientists who develop and approve them. This is also smart business on a number of levels, not least of which that if its customers and employees are vaccinated against these various maladies, they are less likely to spread the disease, which will keep employees on the front lines and customers coming in to make purchases.
