Axios has a story about how one can make a snap judgement about the health of a mall based on the presence of two businesses – the Apple Store and the Cheesecake Factory.
Nobody is surprised by the Apple Store’s impact: As one analyst says, “People go to the mall to go to Apple. They don’t go to a mall and end up at Apple.”
But Cheesecake Factory?
According to Axios, “About 93% of loans backed by malls with a Cheesecake Factory are current on their payments, compared to around 72% of those without one.”
KC’s View:
I have no explanation for this. My feeling always has been that the Cheesecake Factory’s menu is way too big to be anything other than mediocre at everything. But I suppose for some folks, the plethora of choices is reassuring.
