Friday Daily on a Saturday? Hey, we all miss a deadline from time to time. Have a cup of coffee and catch up on the top retail news from yesterday…

Uber is back in the news with yet another partnership, this time with Mercari (a resale marketplace), where they are offering a “no meet-up delivery” where sellers can send items to buyers without even having to package it up. Uber continues to find new avenues for their service, it’s impressive to watch and we wonder what might be next?

Online grocery sales fell again in June, down 23% compared to a year ago. This is not that surprising when we think about where we were a year ago with grocery shopping and avoiding going to stores. What is intriguing is that pickup traffic is still increasing and mass retailers seem to be gaining more share of the grocery trips, the true grocery retailers are going to need to up their game.

This could be a very interesting trend, as it’s not clear if the in-store vs drive up grocery pickup is easier from a logistics standpoint. We remember an early data point from the first days of grocery pick up that many shoppers prefer to pick their own produce and items from the deli/meat counter. Perhaps that is what this is…

Rapid grocery delivery startup, Gopuff, is close to raising approximately $1 billion, according to media reports. This would value the company at $15 Billion, quite the jump from the $8.9 Billion they stood at in March during the last funding round.

Have a great weekend!
