Netflix Gets Immersive With New Restaurant

The Los Angeles Times reports that in 10 days, Netflix plans to open “its first pop-up restaurant … in Los Angeles at the Short Stories Hotel.”

Short Stories is near The Grove, the shopping center where Netflix opened its first pop-up retail store in 2022.

According to the story, “The restaurant, Netflix Bites, will feature ‘a special tasting menu’ curated by chefs featured in some of its most popular culinary shows, as well as custom cocktails by mixologists featured on the show ‘Drink Masters.’

“Although the menu has yet to be revealed, the streaming service said chefs Curtis Stone, from ‘Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend’; Dominique Crenn, of ‘Chef’s Table’ and ‘Iron Chef’; and Jacques Torres of ‘Nailed It!’ are among those who will curate the menu.”

TechCrunch reports that “although the streaming giant has launched immersive experiences based on shows before, including ‘Stranger Things,’ ‘Squid Game,’ ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Money Heist,’ this is the first time that Netflix is stepping into the restaurant business.

KC’s View:

If it works, expect to see more of these things popping up all over the country – especially if Netflix can establish a partnership that reduces its financial exposure.
