Federal agencies failed to respond to child labor alarms

Many children have migrated to the U.S. in recent years, many on their own, and found themselves in the federal government’s custody. The government finds adults to sponsor the children to educate them and allow them to grow up safely. In some cases, however, sponsors have profited by putting children to work in dangerous jobs. The federal government has had opportunities to address the situation, but a lack of clarity on agency responsibility and other communication breakdowns has meant the problem has continued without resolution.
