Inflation and higher interest rates slow consumer spending

The U.S. economy grew at a 1.1 percent annual rate in the first quarter as consumers pulled back on spending in the face of inflation and higher interest rates. The gross domestic product grew around 2.2 percent yearly before the novel coronavirus pandemic.
