Walmart leads Forrester’s 2023 US retailer ranking, with Amazon in second. The top 10, representing 38% of total retail sales, remain unchanged from 2022.
Walmart has once again secured the top position in Forrester’s annual ranking of the 67 largest US retailers (ranked by 2023 US net retail sales), with Amazon following closely in second place. The ranking showed no changes in the top 10 retailers compared to 2022. Collectively, these top 10 retailers accounted for 38% of total US retail sales.
Walmart maintained its leading status thanks to its strong online presence and a variety of omnichannel fulfillment options. Retailers that prioritize convenience, broad reach, and a diverse product assortment have successfully retained their sales dominance in this ranking.
Forrester estimates that Amazon is positioned to chase the number one position for total 2024 US net retail sales, including first and third-party sales. Amazon’s strong ability to deliver convenience and value led to a 12.9% increase in US retail sales in 2023.

- Kroger ($150.0 billion)

- Sam’s Club ($86.2 billion)
- Albertsons ($78.1 billion)
- Ahold Delhaize ($59.0 billion)
