Millions of people in 17 states spent the weekend dealing with a massive snowstorm and dangerously cold temperatures, a confluence of events that was good for supermarket sales even as it created some operational and logistical challenges.
MNB often has focused on the superior communications skills at Stew Leonard’s, and the weekend was no exception. Lots of retailers put out emails in which they informed customers about early closures, but Stew Leonard Jr. – as he often does – went beyond that, personalizing the moment in a way to which customers could relate.
Not only does he tell readers about products that seem to be most popular at the moment (vodka and ice cream!), but he provides some historical context for the store’s opening hours:
My grandfather delivered milk through every storm 100 years ago, so we stay open at the stores too. Lots of first responders, police, fire, and municipal workers come in during the storm. Lots of orange vests!
Many Team Members opt to stay home but, we have a core group that love driving their trucks and jeeps in the snow. Our ovens will be on and there will be at least a butcher on hand.
My wife and I are watching our 3 grandchildren this weekend. Yahoo! I think I’ll be sledding and watching them build a snowman. I have to remember to bring home some hot chocolate!
See you on the other side!
