Serta Simmons Seeks to Improve Inventory and Supply Chain Planning with New Tech

Serta Simmons is ramping up its inventory planning capabilities with new tech.

Mattress retail conglomerate Serta Simmons Bedding (SSB) — the owner of brands including Serta, Simmons, Beautyrest and Tuft & Needle — is working to transform its supply chain planning capabilities through a new partnership with Blue Yonder.

By integrating Blue Yonder’s SaaS-based Integrated Demand and Supply Planning solutions into its existing Advanced Planning System (APS), SSB hopes to improve its manufacturing efficiency and better meet customer demand. The Blue Yonder solution will help SSB to improve its understanding of changing demand patterns and support the advanced planning of raw material sourcing.

Leveraging AI- and machine learning-based prescriptive recommendations, the Blue Yonder tech is designed to offer SSB a holistic, connected view of its supply chain, enabling better forecast accuracy and inventory management.

“At Serta Simmons Bedding, we are focused on helping people sleep better so that they can live healthier lives, and we are continuing to enhance our supply chain capabilities to ensure we deliver on that promise,” said Bhavani Subramanian, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Serta Simmons Bedding in a statement. “The implementation of Blue Yonder’s solution is the latest step in our effort to further build a high-performing and resilient supply chain so that we can continue providing excellent, on-time full service to our retail partners and, ultimately, sleepers.”

The addition of enhanced supply chain planning capabilities is part of SSB’s turnaround efforts after the company filed for bankruptcy in January 2023. The Chapter 11 filing was part of a restructuring agreement with SSB’s key financial stakeholders, and the company is maintaining normal operations throughout the proceedings.
