Poshmark leads fashion resale despite challenger platforms

Poshmark is the clear fashion resale platform market leader by sales, with 19% of second-hand clothes sales so far in March 2023. The RealReal is the next largest marketplace by sales, accounting for 14% thus far in March 2023. Both marketplaces lost share since 2019 when they accounted for 21% and 16%, respectively, but have recently regained some lost ground. They largely lost share to a post-pandemic proliferation of smaller, specialized resellers like GOAT (sneakers), FASHIONPHILE (handbags), and Depop (vintage clothing). The largest second-hand clothes seller in the US, donation-based Goodwill, also lost share to specialized resellers since 2019, but remained the longstanding leader resale with 31% of sales so far in March 2023.
