Mistakes are a common problem in the hospitality industry, but a new artificial intelligence product is looking to reduce them. Called Double-Check, the application uses AI to check the accuracy of off-premises orders.
“We know that restaurants worldwide are struggling to keep up with the high demand for off-premise orders and an ongoing labor shortage,” said Bruno Lo-Ré, executive vice president of food and beverage at Acrelec, which produces the platform. “It’s damaging to restaurants’ reputations and customer retention when errors on orders are made. Existing restaurants running Double-Check have witnessed immediate return on operational efficiencies, sales, and customer experience.”
The platform weighs the food once it is in the bag and estimates the weight based on the order. The AI matches whether the weight of the bag matches the estimate. If there are problems, restaurant staff are alerted.
Initial data from a pilot program show promising results.
- Reduces bagging mistakes by 40 percent
- Increases positive ratings by 0.2 to 0.3 points (out of 5)
- Translates to a 50 percent decrease in order refunds
- And it encourages better rankings in food order apps, which increases channel sales by 10 to 15 percent
