On The Road With Tomorrow’s Customers

Got this email from Waymo – the autonomous ride-hailing service – yesterday, promoting a service it is offering in Phoenix to parents who want to give their kids a little independence via self-driving cars that can shuttle them around the city.

KC’s View:

I think this is smart of Waymo – it builds trust with the next generation of customers.  (Uber has had the same kind of program for several years, I am told.)

But it also gave me an idea for food retailers.

Why couldn’t food retailers do the same kind of thing?  Maybe food retailers could allow parents to establish special pre-paid accounts that would allow their kids to come in and shop on their own.  They could create limits on what the kids could buy, but also give children a sense of food independence, allowing them to develop good nutritional habits while allowing parents to keep an eye on their purchases.
