On Oct. 1, TiVo stopped selling its physical DVR set-top boxes, saying it was out of inventory, though it would continue supporting existing customers. There seems to be a lot of those folks – according to numerous articles I’ve seen, a bunch of die-hard TiVo users are upset by the news, even though it is clear how TiVo was a transitional technology that bridges the traditional broadcast TV/cable era to the current streaming environment.
All of which, I think, teaches us an important lesson about how, in some ways, we all have to view our businesses as being transitional. It is something we should think about all the time.
