I’m reporting this week from the annual Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) Convention in Palm Desert, California – a great place to network and learn, which is appropriate since a focus on education is a primary value for the organization.
On Sunday, in one of a series of Town Halls in which retailers can lay out their strategies and tactics for vendors (and competitors – which is why the laying out only goes so far), the folks from Albertsons took the stage. I was expecting a least some conversation about new realities facing the company in the wake of the collapse of its proposed acquisition by Kroger. I was expecting some explanation to vendors of the company’s strong line against absorbing any tariff-related cost increases. But that’s not what we got.
One other quick note. Thanks to WAFC and its COO, Pat Posey, for inviting me to do one of the Town Halls – a presentation that I called “The Power of a Continuing Education.” It was both a privilege and great fun, and I appreciate the opportunity.
