An MNB reader shared with me a news story that had gone viral on Facebook. I found it heartening, until a little research showed me that, like so much of what is on Facebook, it was totally false – the very definition of fake news. What’s isn’t fake, I think, is the danger that Facebook and its social media brethren pose to our culture. Which, of course, is a problem if a company actively uses it to promote its business – how do people sort out the real information from the B.S.?
