Living in New England as I do, it has been impossible to avoid the news stories – not to mention the rending of garments, weeping and gnashing of teeth. – about the Boston Red Sox’ decision to trade Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. It was a move that now is being mentioned in the same breath as other dubious Red Sox deals (to say the least) involving ballplayers named Babe Ruth and Mookie Betts. But I saw a piece in the Boston Globe that suggested that there are business lessons to be learned here that can be applied to any business.
