Amazon expands faster same day delivery. Delivery will be in available in “as little as five hours” (although two-day shipping is often taking five these days). Coming to Miami, Minneapolis, and Atlanta, and expanding their presence in Chicago. There has to be a breaking point where there’s diminishing returns for convenience and delivery. And, Amazon is still pushing the envelope here.
ShopRite deploys robots for delivery. The robots will debut in Pennsylvania and with the intent behind same-day delivery. Not quite the breakneck speed of Amazon, they can hold up to 150 lbs and have an assortment for chilled, frozen, and room-temp groceries. Watch out Nuro. ShopRite is coming for ya.
Retail and restaurant workers go to work in the cannabis industry. A labor shortage in one industry (or a few) becomes opportunity in another. An estimated +300K workers (+32% increase YOY) are now working in legal weed. Kara Bradford, CEO of Viridian Staffing, says, “there is a sense that this is a booming industry that’s fun and interesting”—and probably really, really chill, man.
Out-of-Home Ad Revenues Register Uptick in Q2. Seeing a +37.9% YOY growth in Q2, it’s more than reversed the trend from the pandemic drop and is now above pre-pandemic growth levels, and revenues are up to $2B.
Apple’s privacy changes drive up ad prices for e-commerce marketers. As you can imagine, it’s harder to effectively target users and as a result, performance has dropped and so equivalent levels of CPA, conversion, etc are more expensive. For the time being, marketers could move to other platforms, but with similar changes coming to those platforms (ie. Google), that might not be a viable alternative long-term.
Ocado rolls out meal prep robot. Okay, this is just cool. The robot, Semblr, feeds Ocado’s 4000 staff their own (unique) meal). A combination of 17 ingredients can be combined into different varieties and produce up to 110 meals per hour. Now, if only I could get one at home.
