Daily Quickwit, weekend edition.  Grocery consolidation continues, retail sales and store traffic continue to grow and most importantly what is the favorite ice cream flavor in your state?

Consolidation continues in grocery as New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers announced Thursday that it is buying Wisconsin-based Piggly Wiggly Midwest. As part of the acquisition, C&S will operate 11 Piggly Wiggly Midwest corporate stores and service 14 Butera Market stores in the Chicagoland region, as well as 84 Wisconsin franchisees under the Piggly Wiggly brand. Piggly Wiggly’s current distribution centers and offices will continue to operate. The deal is anticipated to close by the end of July, subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions

According to the National Retail Federation, retail sales edged up in most categories in June and were up across the board on a yearly basis.  June retail sales were up 0.8% from May and 12.1% year-over-year.

Center traffic in U.S. has risen 55% in 2021.  That’s the score tallied by data scientists at Zenreach, an omnichannel ad platform that determines sales attribution by measuring online conversions and store visits.  Zenreach determined that returns to retail by consumers rose sharply in the first quarter and then moved up by 12% in the last two months.

And lastly as you are enjoying your weekend Instacart shares what America’s ‘Flavorite’ Ice Cream is in Every State.
