COVID test shortage to mimic the toilet paper issue from early 2020
Remember back in the early pandemic days? When we laughed about the toilet paper black market? Well, now COVID tests are trending that way as many retailers are limiting the number of tests you can buy at a time. Amazon is the latest to restrict the number of tests that can be bought at a time.
People everywhere are searching for the tests, and manufacturers are scrambling to make more. President Biden announced that 500 million tests will be sent out starting in January, but that is weeks away and people want to test before holiday get togethers.
And apparently we can add candy canes to the list
Candy cane manufacturers are dealing with the same labor shortages and supply chain bottlenecks affecting other consumer products categories, and compounding that is holiday non-chocolate sales are up more than 34% this year. Hammond’s Candies, the largest candy cane maker in the U.S., has made the tough decision to stop taking new orders, and Doscher’s Candy Co.’s workers could only produce about 70 percent of the candy canes ordered this season by Sam’s Club.
