U.S. plant-based food retail sales jumped 27% to 7 Billion in 2020
Now more than ever, consumers are choosing foods that taste good and boost their health by incorporating plant-based foods into their diet. SPINS, along with Plant Based Food Association and The Good Food Institute, took a deep dive into the booming $7 Billion industry that plant-based has become. SPINS head of retail, Dawn Valandingham, commented “The plant-based category has evolved to the point that retailers can’t limit who they consider the plant-based shopper. They should now assume everyone is a potential plant-based buyer and educate them enough to see the possibilities.”
Better-for-you holds its place on the shelf in center store
The growth of natural and wellness products has continued to outpace overall grocery growth even in the last year – another sign that consumers are increasingly connecting their immunity and health with the products they put in and on their body. Retailers such as Raley’s are finding ways to highlight this category such as including better-for-you items in its weekly promotions every week and highlighting them in its in-store merchandising programs.
