Amazon to Create More Than 4,000 New Corporate and Tech Jobs in the UK

Amazon is growing its UK workforce with the addition of 4,000 new jobs in corporate and technology fields, increasing the company’s permanent workforce in the region to 75,000. Over the last three years Amazon has created 40,000 new jobs across the UK.

The new positions will support both Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a focus on software development, product management and engineering, in addition to operations teams jobs in fulfillment centers, sort centers and delivery stations.

Amazon says that it has invested billions of dollars across the UK, which positions it as one of the 10 largest private sector employers in the region. In 2022, Amazon also set out to create 1,500 new apprenticeships across 40 different departments.

We’re continuing to invest in talent right across the UK, from apprentices in Swansea to data scientists in Edinburgh,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon in a statement. “People join us not just for the wide variety of roles, great pay and benefits, but for the career development opportunities we provide. Applicants recognize we are an employer that offers great development potential, and we are proud to have so many employees growing and taking the opportunity to learn new skills that will create paths to new jobs at Amazon and beyond.”

The move to hire additional workers in the UK comes amid a time of challenges for Amazon in the U.S. Amazon has reportedly delayed plans for at least 16 U.S. warehouses following a Q1 2022 net loss of $3.8 billion.
